Product Spotlight: The Concealed Strength of the SS4b Multi-Channel Amplifier

The Ninja are discrete, versatile, precise and reliable. They crawl, soar, strike and vanish. Hidden in plain sight among DD Audio’s amplifier line-up is one such covert killer. Often overlooked, never overwrought, this sharp and powerful little shinobi has earned respect from all who employ its skills. For that reason, we have chosen the SS4b for this month’s product spotlight.

Loaded into the compact SS chassis, this amplifier is ideal for stealth installations. Its discrete class D circuitry delivers tremendous power without sacrificing fidelity or thermal load handling. The highly durable screw block terminals support clean and lasting connections. With individually selectable high pass and low pass crossovers, the SS4b effortlessly bends frequency bands to its will.

Subtle, versatile, powerful, exact, and unrelenting. The SS4b is your system’s shadow veiled assassin — channeling powerful and efficient blows that reverberate through the domain of its shogun.

Despite the heavy rains, wind and tornado warnings the DD Audio team endured at Slamology, their determination to stick out the bad times made the good times an immense success. The premier event for DDKONG was met with great fan excitement. Many event attendees stopped by the DD booth just to witness the fury of the DDKONG, and they did not leave disappointed. DD Audio would like to extend a huge thanks to the guys from Custom Works, Indianapolis for hanging out and working the booth all weekend, rain or shine. As the proud sponsor of The Largest Car Audio Contest in the World at Slamology 2018, DD Audio thanks all the competitors who didn’t let mother nature deter them from battling it out in the lanes. Lastly, DD congratulates Alex Quarve who won a pair of DXB 1.1 Wood Earbuds for his participation in the #DDKong social media photo contest.

Install Highlight: 2012 Roush Mustang

Install Highlight | WRITTEN BY LEWIS JACKSON | JUNE 2018

This month we head back to the frozen north to visit our good friends at Cartunz in Williston, ND. Some of you may remember the outrageous F-150 that was featured in a previous Highlight article, as it was stuffed to the gills with DD products. For this month’s model, a 2012 Roush Mustang clone owned by and built for Bruce Dufner, a different approach was taken.

In keeping with the sports car theme, Bruce knew that he didn’t want a large heavy setup to detract from the performance of the car. That said, he did not want to compromise on sound either. The solution came in the form of a kick-ass front stage, consisting of our flagship A series drivers blended with the VO series for the ultimate in clarity and output.

Not wanting to miss out on any of the information presented by his music, the low end of things is represented in proper fashion by not one but three of the venerable 2508 ESP subwoofers, given their motivation by an M2c amplifier. The front stage is guided by the pair of DSI-1 processors, which in turn feed two SS4b amplifiers.

With all of the power the system is capable of, it is nice to not have to push the equipment to dangerous levels to enjoy the setup fully. While we may be known for SPL, clean systems like this remind us that it is just as important to remain true to the source.

Dealer Spotlight: Lawson’s Car Audio

Shop Name:  Lawson’s Car Audio
Shop Location: Augusta, Georgia, USA
Owner’s Name: Morgan Lawson

Lawson's Car Audio

DD: How long have you been in business?
Morgan: 24 Years.

DD: How did you get started in car audio?
Morgan: Roy Thomas Lawson Sr. was born on January 20th 1955 in Union, SC. Roy join the armed forced in 1973 where he met his wife Su Lawson while stationed in South Korea. Roy then retired from the armed forces in 1985 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. After retiring from the armed forces, Roy began working for GTE Corporations. After his two children were born, Megan and Morgan, Roy quit his job with the GTE Corp. to open Lawson’s Incorporate so he could be closer to his wife and children. Lawson’s opened their doors in 1994 under the ownerships of Roy Lawson and Su Lawson. They later began selling everything from TVs all the way to furniture. It wasn’t until Su Lawson purchased three pallets of car audio at an auction that they realized that this was something they could really enjoy. Since then, the shop became Lawson’s Car Audio.

DD: What made you decide to do car audio for a living?
Morgan: The shop began as a distribution shop of everything you can think of. After Su purchased the three pallets of car audio from an auction not knowing what exactly she had purchased, they sold it cheap and noticed it drew in a lot of clients. Afterwards it became history and we became Lawson’s Car Audio.

DD: Does your shop specialize in anything specific?
Morgan: We do car audio, cellular accessories, lift kits, tires, rims, lights, underglow, and window tint! Hopefully soon we plan on starting to wrap vehicles.

DD: How long have you been a DD Audio dealer?
Morgan: We have been a DD dealer for the past four to five years in Augusta, GA.

DD: Where did you first hear about DD Audio, and why did you decide to become a DD Audio dealer?
Morgan: We had one customer come into the shop and ask about DD Audio and if we carried this brand. After the customer left we looked further into this brand and saw major Potential for our shop.

DD: Is there anything else you would like to add about your experience with DD Audio?
Morgan: I can honestly say that DD Audio has impressed everyone who came into the shop and will keep impressing everyone. Our top selling item is the LE-S06 for trucks. This year alone it is our top selling subwoofer in the shop and we expect it to keep being at the top of our charts.
